Although there has been a decline in Macau’s revenues from the gaming sector in recent years, Macau is still predicted to become one of the richest places in the world. Tourism and gambling are no doubt the spine of Macau’s economy, taking up 20-25% of Macau’s GDP shown from figures of recent years. Last year the gaming sector prospered resulting a rise in GDP of 4.7%. However, the centre of tourism and leisure faces rising competition from regional countries and cities in South East Asia. More cities are becoming gaming destinations; more casinos are emerging.
