We are our history. Every human being corresponds to a specific stratification of experiences: a unique and fascinating combination of memories that shapes our identity and defines us as people. What we have lived is our most precious and fragile treasure. Our whole past is guarded by our mind and hanging by the thin thread of memory.
Therefore, the failing of memories is one of the most painful experiences a human being can live. In an ageing society where the possibilities of growing older are increasingly higher, more people are suffering from a gradual and inexorable memory loss- due to diseases as the Alzheimer’s disease. It is an irreversible and painful erosion of one’s identity and past.
Not recognizing the face of the loved ones, the places or the elements of one’s story leads to deep and unspeakable emotional upheavals. These moments affect both the patient and his/her family members. For this reason, the support of professionals and structured networks is crucial. They are available to listen and offer solutions to those who are living the darkness of memories.
The sunset of memories needs a light able to guide families and patients through the complex disease journey. For this reason, “Affetti da” was created. It is a network of doctors and volunteers aimed at offering a professional support to those people who are coping with the dementia disorders of their loved ones.
As a guiding star, “Affetti da” aims at guiding the journey of those who face the gloomy darkness of the disease. It is a delicate and complex mission, which needs a refined and important image. Consequently, on the occasion of its foundation, “Affetti da” ask designers to create its logo and visual image.
A logo is much more than simple a graphic composition. It is an identity, which becomes image; it is a mental journey, which has to be imprinted in the observer’s memory. The logo has to be linked to a product or an association. It has to evoke a story using the same language and the same feelings used by the association it represents.
Through “Logo Against Alzheimer’s”, graphic designers and designers will have the opportunity to design the logo of one of the most important associations in the field of the fight against memory diseases. In this way, they will make a valuable contribution to those people who daily face painful situations in order to assist people coping with the difficulties of the disease. This logo will talk about memory and to memory. It will be a recognizable image able to reassure and become a reference point- guiding star- in the slow failing of memories.
The support and solidarity activities targeted to people with family members suffering from the Alzheimer’s disease include facing extremely delicate and complex situations. The pain of those people coping with different types of dementia is an immeasurable abysm, which commands respect and a deep human and professional sensitivity.
For this reason, “Affetti da” decided to rely on designers. Thanks to their artistic sensitivity, the latter will be able to translate the identity of the association. Consistently with its name, such association aims at becoming a light, a support and a reference point in a situation of profound dismay.
Designing a logo means writing the identity of a product. It means giving meaning to an association. “Logo Against Alzheimer’s” aims at creating a brand able to convey professionalism, reliability and confidence for those people who are coping with the difficulties of the disease. The logo will have to talk to family members and patients. Consequently, it will have to be intuitive, reassuring, easy to recognize but at the same time able to represent a complex and authoritative association.
In order to propose solutions, which are consistent with the mission and the identity of the association, hereby follows a list of the main aspects designers will have to take into account:
- The association; “Affetti da” was funded in Bologna thanks to the experience acquired during the study of mind degenerative diseases conducted by doctor Roberta Pantieri, who is a member of the National Institution of Neurological Sciences at the Bellaria hospital. The activity of the association includes the improvement of the quality of life of people suffering from the Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia and the support to those who take care of people suffering from dementia disorders – both volunteers and family members. The commitment and support of “Affetti da” for those people coping with Alzheimer’s disease comprises psychological support, legal advice and training activities aiming at guaranteeing the system of knowledge and skills which are crucial in order to consciously and kindly cope with the disease. Through a wide range of initiatives, the association devotes itself to prevent the disease, raising awareness amongst the general public about the early diagnosis, the detailed study of its characteristics and the impact of Alzheimer’s disease and of other dementia diseases on the social fabric. Moreover, the association commits to safeguard the patients’ rights, to promote investments in the scientific research and to optimize and spread the services for those who live the difficulties of the disease. The distinctive features of “Affetti da” are the high level of professionalism of those related to it and a broader cultural sensitivity in the promotion of initiatives with a significant media impact, which can be expressed also through different artistic and communicative tools to achieve a better and more widespread awareness of the disease. In this sense, the logo will have to talk about a welcoming but refined association aimed at becoming a virtuous model of network.
- Features; there are no limitations regarding the composition and the shape of the logo (including dimensions, proportion and insertion of graphic elements, symbols and/or pictograms). In any case, the logo has to include the following elements:
a. The name of the association “Affetti da”; font, dimension, color and graphic features are at the designer’s full discretion;
b. The payoff of the association “Associazione Onlus per la ricerca, la diagnosi precoce e il supporto alle famiglie dei malati di Alzheimer”; font, dimension, color and graphic features are at the designer’s full discretion;
Designers can present different variations of colors or versions without payoff of the same logo. The proposal of the logo has to be univocal.
- Variation; For a better understanding of the features of the logo and its possible use, in the presentation panel, at least two renderings regarding the testing merchandising are required (for example bags, T-shirts, block notes, pens or different types of objects) at the designer’s full discretion.
